Alzheimer's / Dementia Day Care

Jennings Center for Older Adults recognizes that the prevalence of Alzheimer's and other dementias requires specialized residential and community-based options for those living with the disease. At Jennings, we recognize that each individual's needs are different in the varying stage of dementia. We offer three programs to help individuals living with dementia and their caregivers to adjust to the levels of memory support and independence:

  • adult day services
  • dementia care assisted living
  • long-term nursing home care

We recognize and support the unique needs of individuals living with dementia by providing them with opportunities to express their individuality and fulfill their human need for connection, inclusiveness, identity, and usefulness.

Within a familiar, comfortable, and safe environment, we strive to offer individuals flexibility and freedom to maintain their personal lifestyles and interests. We recognize the changes that come with dementia and strive to provide routines and structured settings that support the attainment of personal goals. At the same time, we seek to enliven our environment with a variety of opportunities to interact with the living world of plants, animals, and people, therein providing daily opportunities to give as well as receive care.

We believe that the journey through life with dementia should be celebrated and supported not only with those individuals experiencing dementia but with their families as well. We seek to learn from family members and involve them in all aspects of the resident's daily life. By developing a positive relationship with the family through ongoing education and by devoting time for open and frequent communication, we strengthen our ability to work together in supporting the resident and each other.

The primary role of every staff member is to support the individual's pursuit of happiness and self-determination by nurturing their strengths and abilities, assisting with their losses, providing authentic human companionship, and celebrating the uniqueness of each person. In our daily life with residents and each other, we strive to build a sense of family with genuine caring, encouragement, and mutual support. To promote our commitment to our residents, every staff member is empowered to make decisions that positively impact residents' quality of life. In supporting staff members' ability to succeed as dementia caregivers, we foster open communication and ongoing dementia education.

We believe that every person has the potential to engage in loving relationships and pursue a meaningful life. Our commitment is to provide the security, support, and companionship people with dementia need to meet these basic human needs.
